Thank you very much Laura~
I feel like the more I learn about graphic design in school, the more I don't want to be a graphic designer. Don't get me wrong, I love design and art.
But reality is different~I think school needs to teach students on how to protect ourselves once we get out there.
However, thank you for sharing information.

Hi Lori, I too wish they would've taught we self-employed/freelancing individuals something about taxes in school. I don't know any graphic designers who don't freelance...but I digress. I found this link that might help:

http://www.business.gov/register/incorporation/llc/

I've never heard anything about getting a tax break if you register your business. I never did but registering as an LLC seems pretty painless and what many small businesses opt to do. Sorry I'm not more knowledgable on the subject. Talking to an accountant is probably your best bet. Sorry I wasn't terribly helpful!

Hi Laura
Thank you for sharing your knowledge
I am a new graphic designer student and I have been sign as a freelance graphic designer in a design firm. (my first time)

this is my first time to get a 1099 form

I have heard that I have to register my own company in order to save some taxes ?

is that true? if so, what should I do?

Do you know anything by any chance?

I really wish school has taught the student what to do.... huh...

Again, thank you for sharing your knowledge

I agree, those are a nice option for finding freelance work but I find they are very competitive and some employers there are looking for a lot of work cheap. I only scope out the relatively decent paying gigs, but those sites are a nice resource for freelancers.
